Lely introduced a matrix organisation to its leadership. We were asked to create a game where 100 leaders could experience thinking and acting in line with the vision of the future organisation.
Working in a matrix organisation demands a shift in attitude and behaviour. Traditional hierarchies give way to cross-functional collaboration and shared decision-making. We turned all key points into game rounds, requiring participants to practice the new ways of working – collaborating across boundaries, negotiating priorities, and making decisions without clear authority structures.
The game created a safe space to experiment with the new mindset. Leaders could make mistakes, receive immediate feedback, and reflect on their approach – all without real-world consequences.
Later, we created a version for all company employees. This scaled the learning experience across the entire organisation, ensuring everyone understood how the matrix structure would affect their daily work and interactions.
